Gravert's Apple Basket Orchard | An annual Smith family tradition in Sabula, Iowa

The first time we went to Gravert’s Apple Orchard was 4 years ago when my first born was only a year old. We’ve made it a point to go every year since then and it’s something we all really look forward to! This was the first time both of our kids were able to carry their own little baskets and have some independence picking their own apples in the orchard. Not that we didn’t hear “my legs are tired…will you carry my bucket??…will you just carry me AND my bucket??” a few times, but mostly they just had a blast and loved being outside!

We also grabbed some of their Root beer made with can sugar and Wisconsin honey (delish!) and visited with the friendly animals. It’s such a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon with the family! Not to mention…their apples make the BEST apple pie! It’s also the only time I every bake, so that may be part of why all my guys love this fun little family tradition!

If you haven’t been to Gravert’s yet, definitely check your calendar and make some plans to get there before the season ends! Visit their website for their availability, hours & directions -

Paige + Baron | A sweet engagement session outside the Beautiful Nature Center in Clinton, Iowa

I can not wait for Paige and Baron’s wedding next Summer! These two are seriously naturals in front of the camera. They did amazing at their engagement session and getting the practice in before the wedding will definitely ease any nerves about getting pictures taken the day of the wedding. Although, it sounds like Paige will be a pro because she’s in a couple weddings next year too. Sound like a busy, fun, full-of-love 2020 ahead for them and their loved ones!

Wiersema Family | A late Summer family session by the Mississippi River in Clinton, Iowa

I was so looking forward to this family session! It was awhile ago that Alesha first contacted me about doing family photos, and we finally made it happen by the river on the most beautiful September evening! Brantley is 3 (but almost 4!) and he is such a character! We’ve actually had a playdate in the past with my kiddos and he’s just the sweetest boy, so smart and funny and totally willing to pee outside if the urge strikes (true story lol). I’m so happy with how their photos are turning out and I hope they love them as much as I do.
